The Regiostars Awards are the European prize launched for the first time in 2008 by the European Commission and aimed at EU-funded projects that demonstrate excellence and a new approach to regional development. Participating projects are at the heart of communication activities at European level with the aim of inspiring other regions and project managers in Europe. Each year, there are five categories and an audience prize. The REGIOSTARS Awards are a coveted recognition for EU regions because they give visibility and share achievements that have had a positive impact on the territory and can be a source of inspiration. Nominations relate to projects which have been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Social Fund (ESF), the Cohesion Fund or the Interreg IPA-CBC or ENI-CBC programmes and which started after 1 January 2007. An independent jury, made up of high-level academics, will evaluate the projects received and nominate the winners. In addition, the public can choose its winner through an online vote and award the Audience Award to one of the projects.
